Dominion NextEra Expand Residential Bill Credit Offer to Four Years
Dominion Energy and NextEra Energy revised their $67 billion merger package Sept. 15 to offer average residential customers roughly $10 monthly bill credits for four years instead of two.
Businesses below large-data-center classes and churches would receive two years of credits. Combined credits would total about $2.25 billion shareholder-funded, with $1.78 billion aimed at Virginia customers. Extra residential years would largely replace credits previously pitched for large data centers, plus about $90 million more from shareholders.
The companies also pledged to keep Dominion’s 10,431 Virginia employees for five years, add 600 NextEra jobs, invest in workforce programs, and build a Richmond office tower. Clean Virginia said late changes underscore an incomplete original filing.
SCC hearings begin in November, with a decision expected in January. Gov. Abigail Spanberger remains an intervenor and has expressed deep skepticism about selling the state’s primary regulated utility.
