Early Voting for November 3 Begins September 18 Across Virginia
Virginia voters can begin casting ballots for the Nov. 3, 2026, general election as early as Friday, Sept. 18, the Virginia Department of Elections announced.
Early in-person voting continues through Saturday, Oct. 31, in every locality. The official 45-day early voting period begins Saturday, Sept. 19, but registrar offices closed that day must open Sept. 18.
New for 2026, all localities will offer early voting on the second and third Sundays before Election Day in addition to two Saturdays. Weekend days are Oct. 18, Oct. 24, Oct. 25 and Oct. 31. Hours and sites vary by locality, so voters should confirm details with their general registrar.
Absentee ballots by mail are being sent no later than Sept. 18. Any registered voter may request one without an excuse; the deadline to request a mailed ballot is Oct. 23. Returned mailed ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 3 and received by noon Nov. 6.
This year's ballot includes U.S. Senate, all 11 House seats, local offices, a special election for House of Delegates District 20, and three proposed amendments to the Constitution of Virginia.
