Henrico Adopts PFAS Monitoring Rules for Industrial Wastewater Discharges
Henrico County supervisors approved an ordinance updating industrial-wastewater rules for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, often called forever chemicals.
The Sept. 8 vote aligns maximum discharge limits with state permitting requirements and federal standards for PFAS discharge monitoring into the county wastewater system. Separate federal limits already cover finished drinking water.
PFAS compounds resist breakdown and have drawn growing scrutiny from environmental and public-health regulators. Henrico’s change focuses on industrial discharges rather than household plumbing.
County environmental reporting continues to track related permits, violations and proposals across the locality.
