Loudoun Officials Meet on Proposed Transmission Line Route-orig

Catoctin District Supervisor Caleb Kershner has shared details from a recent meeting involving his office, Loudoun County staff, the Town of Lovettsville, and representatives from Valley Link Transmission Company. The session addressed the proposed 765-kV transmission line known as the Valley North project. Discussions centered on route options and installation methods through western portions of the county.

Valley Link indicated it would not commit at this stage to undergrounding the line along the proposed path. County representatives have previously requested consideration of underground options to address potential effects on surrounding lands. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange information on project planning and local priorities.

Details of the Valley North Proposal

The Valley Link Transmission Company has advanced plans for a new transmission line that would pass through western Loudoun County if approved by the Virginia State Corporation Commission. Project materials describe it as a greenfield development aimed at enhancing electrical reliability in the region. Maps and route information are available on the company's website for public review.

Local engagement has included comments submitted through the project portal. Officials have encouraged property owners and residents to review potential routes and provide input during designated comment periods. Supporting documentation can be added in follow-up submissions as needed.

Resolution and Community Process

The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution opposing the project in its current form during a September 15 meeting. The measure was introduced jointly by Supervisor Kershner and Chair Randall. It reflects the board's position on minimizing disruptions to established land uses and environmental features in the affected areas.

A petition organized by Kershner seeks to compile resident feedback for submission to relevant authorities. Additional public open houses are planned for early November, including one in Loudoun County on November 12 at the Lovettsville Game Protective Association. Notifications about updated routes are also being prepared for distribution.

Ongoing Public Comment Period

The current window for public comments on the Valley North project remains open with an expected close in mid-December. Participants can access the project map online to submit views on alignment alternatives and construction approaches. County staff continue to monitor developments and coordinate with state regulators.

Kershner noted that the recent meeting represents continued dialogue on the proposal. Updated information will be posted on the Valley Link website as routes are refined. Residents interested in the process are directed to the available resources for further details.
