Loudoun School Board Receives Plea on Power Lines Near Campuses

During a public comment period at the Loudoun County School Board meeting the presentation addressed high-voltage power lines planned near school properties. The content presented an urgent warning focused on elementary school settings. It noted the overall scale of the project and its placement relative to school facilities.

The lines were described as running over athletic fields in the affected areas. This configuration results in distances as close as 50 meters to school buildings and grounds. The information shared referenced research related to cancer as part of the considerations.

Impacts on children’s neurobehavior were also included in the points raised. Activities such as marching band practices were highlighted in connection with the proposed lines. Severe winds were noted as a factor that could influence the situation.

The presentation urged action to protect the school environments involved. The Loudoun County School Board consists of elected members who handle such matters. Recent changes to the board occurred with new members sworn in at the start of 2026.

School safety and community health represent ongoing topics for the board. The details provided aimed to inform decisions on infrastructure developments. Athletic fields serve important roles in student activities across the county.

Research references in the presentation pointed to potential health associations. Neurobehavioral considerations for children formed another element of the discussion. Marching band programs could encounter operational challenges from nearby lines.

Regional wind patterns were cited as adding complexity to any safety planning. The session allowed for public input on the project during the meeting. The board maintains responsibility for reviewing proposals affecting school sites.

Further sessions may include additional comments or updates on the power line plans. The county continues to balance educational needs with infrastructure requirements. The presentation wrapped up by stressing the importance of careful evaluation.
