Prince William County Middle School Basketball Program Has a 100-Game Winning Streak

The coaches of the Potomac Shores Middle School Boys’ Basketball teams didn’t need to teach this lesson because they haven’t had the opportunity yet.

Marlon Marshall, the Varsity Coach, and Mark Marshall, the JV coach, both have a perfect 100-0 record.

Marlon stated, “We have been unbeaten since we opened in 2021.” “Together, we’re 100-0, combined.”

The Prince William Board of County Supervisors will honor the teams from the Dumfries School in Virginia on Tuesday.

“A winning streak of 100 games is more than just a statistic. It is a legacy.” The team has been a model of excellence, and brought pride to Potomac Shores as well as Prince William County.

How can coaches motivate a team for five years?

Marlon stated that the kids were just “hungry to win”. They know they are setting the tone and mentally prepare themselves every time there is a game.

Mark Mark said that several players went undefeated in their sixth, seventh and eight grade years.

Mark stated, “We have kids who started in sixth grade and never lost a match.”

Marlon explained that they expect to win every game, but that’s not the case. “If they get a ‘L’ they will be a bit down but they have to learn to cope with it.”

Both coaches believe that their players will show sportsmanship and grace if they lose a match.

Marlon replied, “That’s a given.” Marlon said, “When they have character and integrity they will definitely have the sportsmanship they need.”
