Spanberger Names Andrea Fletcher to Lead New Virginia Digital Service

Gov. Abigail Spanberger named Andrea Fletcher director of the new Virginia Digital Service, a team of engineers, designers and technology specialists charged with making state websites and systems easier to use while policing wasteful technology spending.

Fletcher said Virginians should expect government services to be intuitive and that the office aims to show government can build strong technology. The service will also review how Virginia buys and uses technology so problems surface before the state commits to poorly designed systems or contracts.

The appointment is part of a broader push to modernize state operations and reduce costly technology failures. Spanberger's office released a courtesy photo of Fletcher with the announcement.
