Police say student who made threats was armed with knives at school

Police have charged a middle school student after they say he threatened a student with a blade.

Around lunchtime on Tuesday, police were called to Swanson Middle School near Westover after a student aged 14 was reported as making threats. The police seized the two knives brought into school.

Arlington County Police said today that three juvenile males were involved in a dispute in school, during which the suspect made threatening remarks to harm the victim using a knife. No injuries were reported. The school administration searched the suspects’ belongings and found two knives.

The crime report states that “responding officers took the knives, and the male juvenile suspect who is in his teens was taken into custody.” A petition was filed for the juvenile suspect for Possession on School Property.

Separately, an hour or so after the Swanson incident in Green Valley, police were called to Drew Elementary School for a lockdown. According to scanner traffic, it turned out to have been a false alert.
