Two Fairfax County Police Officers shot during Fair Oaks traffic stop, gunman killed

A gunfight broke out during a traffic check in Fair Oaks on Wednesday, leaving two County officers wounded and one local man dead.

The incident occurred at around 2:45 pm in the 4000 block Majestic Lane, just outside Greenbriar Town Center.

Kevin Davis, the chief, said that when the 36-year old suspect was stopped for speeding he was “immediately aggressive” and “combative”.

The alleged shooter, after telling the officers that he had a gun in his holster, removed his weapon and fired at two officers who were standing by his driver’s door.

A third officer on the scene fired back, hitting the driver. He was taken to a hospital in the area where he died.

Police said that both officers suffered injuries to their arms. They are being treated in a local hospital.
