Virginia schools face federal scrutiny over parental rights laws

The U.S. Department of Education is putting Virginia schools on notice, warning they could lose federal funding and face further investigation if they fail to comply with parental rights laws.

The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors has adopted revisions to its Rules or Order (PDF) designed to streamline Board meetings.

Six Democrats announce they are running for Dist. 32 state Senate seat

Since State Sen. Suhas Subramanyam won the election on Tuesday for ‘s 10th Congressional District, there will be a for the seat Subramanyam currently represents – District 32.

Three have announced their bid for the seat.

On the evening of Election Day, after Subramanyam declared victory, Del. (D-) said live on television that he was running for Subramanyam’s seat.

Yesterday, former Del. Ibraheem Samirah announced he is also running in the Democratic primary. 

Former one-term Commonwealth Attorney Buta has also announced she is running for the seat.

Puja Khanna, a small business owner who ran for the Dulles District seat on the last year but lost, is also running for the seat.

Sree NagiReddi has also announced his bid. He was the Democratic candidate for the Dulles Board of Supervisors in 2019. 

Hurunnessa Farid has also announced her bid. She is the Director of Outreach at Multi-Faith Neighbors Network. 

A firehouse primary — also known as a mass canvass, party canvass or unassembled caucus — is a type of primary election run and paid for by a political party instead of a state’s Department of . Per state election law, a firehouse primary in Virginia is a special primary election for state or national office that occurs outside of a November general election.

Both Democrats and Republicans will be using a firehouse primary for this special election. The Republicans have not yet announced their candidates.

The Loudoun County Democratic Committee announced a firehouse primary on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to determine a nominee for the special election.
