Loudoun County School Board member defends turning off cameras during public comment sessions

Arben Istrefi, Sterling district school board member, defends the board's decision to turn cameras off during public comment sessions.

A commonwealth — a country — losing its ability to talk, to understand, to reason

Neither side in our widening cultural schism is willing to consider the other’s point of view. We are hardened by the echo chamber of social media and ideologically driven cable channels and podcasts to the point that losers resort to violence to keep or gain power. Those trend lines, taken to their conclusion, threaten to derail the governing structure of a freely elected republic now almost 250 years old.

Interview with Ram Venkatachalam, candidate for HD-26

Loudoun County school member not charged with assault

It was clearly a misunderstanding brought on by an agitator, Ms. Heather Gottlieb.

While I deeply regret my reaction, I was being followed by Ms. Gottlieb who held her camera less than a foot away from me and just stood there. I held up my purse and then file folders. She continued to harass people right after me as well.

Ms. Gottlieb has been after me and many others she doesn’t agree with politically. Ms. Gottlieb filed a false police report and sent the police to my house at 10:30 at night unnecessarily to disrupt my family and use the police as lawfare.

My understanding is she has done this many times and bragged about destroying people’s lives publicly. She tends to use the police, she wants to defund, as political weapons.

I really hope you take into account that Ms. Gottlieb and her good friend, Ms. Beynette, were clear agitators from the Frances Hazel Reid committee meeting on November 18th.

I don’t think LCPS needs this attention. Especially since Ms. Gottlieb was acting poorly as a Vice Chair of Operations for the Loudoun County Democrats. They may want to reconsider her representing them. Her behavior does not put that organization in a good light.

I hope this school board realizes what is happening and severs their associations with Ms. Gottlieb and Ms. Beyenette.

I would like to focus on our students, education and achievement. NOT renaming of schools. The renaming of schools will cost Loudoun County taxpayers over $1 million for 9 schools (and that is just an estimate). There was no reason to even have committees to proceed with renaming schools. Loudoun County residents have already spoken that the renaming of schools should NOT be pursued.

Thank you,

Deana Griffiths, Loudoun County Public School Board member, Ashburn District
