The police are investigating an incident that occurred near the Worldgate Shopping Center, Herndon.

Around 2:40 pm today (Wednesday), officers from the Town of Herndon police department and Fairfax County Police Department were dispatched the 2100 block of Centreville Road. However, there was confusion as to where the shooting actually occurred.

Lisa Herndon, spokesperson for the Herndon Police Department, says that while the Taco Bell located at 2170 Centreville Road was the original 911 caller, the police believe that the shooting actually occurred in the 13000 Block of Worldgate Drive on the opposite side of the intersection.

She told that “we responded as mutual assistance to assist [the Fairfax County Police Department]” and after further investigation, talking to witnesses and victims, it was determined that the incident occurred in Herndon.

In a tweet sent just before 4 pm, the HPD stated that the victim was an adult male who had been transported to Reston Hospital. The injuries were not considered life threatening.

Herndon Police officers took a person into custody at the Innovation Center Metro Station entrance. The individual is currently “being questioned,” Herndon reports.
