What Price Woke

One of President Trump’s first Executive Orders was getting rid of woke ideologies in the nation’s public schools.  Part of this initiative was protecting the rights of young women by maintaining and enforcing the original intent of Title IX.

Prohibiting biological men from competing in women’s competitions; maintaining the safety of school children in toilet rooms and locker rooms; stopping progressive teachers from indoctrinating children by teaching them they are bad because of the pigmentation of their skin and to hate their God given bodies.

The same people who are pushing this woke ideology are the same people who are overseeing the decline in quality of education, not just in Virginia, but across America.

According to the Federal Government’s: Nations Report Card, Virginia has a reading performance average score of 214 (average for the country), while Florida has an above average score of 218.  Florida’s average spending per student is $9,983 compared to Virginia’s $12,638, and many of the northern Virginia counties are spending more than $20,000 per student according to the World Population Review.

Unfortunately, many in the Virginia Educational systems are mounting opposition to President Trump’s Executive Orders.  Specifically, the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William, and the City of Alexandria have all come out against reversing their woke ideologies and policies.

In the case of Loudoun County, the school board has not just doubled but tripled down on their opposition to President Trump’s orders to protect our children.

During the Governor’s meeting at the White House last week the confrontation between the Governor of Maine and President Trump over woke agendas in Maine Schools went viral, with the President promising to “see you in court.”  It is worth noting that Maine had a reading score of 210 in the Nations Report Card, 4 points below the national average.

What is the potential this could be repeated here in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and what does it mean for Virginia voters?

For the year 2025, the Federal financing just for schools, to the jurisdictions listed above plus the federal financing to the state totals $486 million.  Right now, our only buffer between the woke ideologs and the President’s Executive Order is Republican Governor Youngkin.

This could change dramatically if Democrat candidate Abigail Spanberger is elected Governor this November.  If she wins the election, will she join with the progressives in the Virginia House of Delegates, the Virginia Senate, and the progressive democrats in Northern Virginia in defying President Trump’s order to protect the children in our public schools?

If she wins, will she attempt to “De-Trump” Virginia the way Gavin Newsome has tried to do in California?  Will she get into a political battle with President Trump over her woke ideologies and risk losing Federal Funding for Virginia schools?  If so, will she try to make up the loss of $486 million dollars in school funding through increased taxation on the backs of every citizen of Virginia?

Finally, the greatest costs imposed by the progressive left’s woke ideology will be borne by the children of Virginia.  They will continue to be taught variations on Critical Race Theory, indoctrinated into gender dysphoria pseudo-psychology, and taught that America is a racist dystopia that is beyond redemption and must be torn down.  Basic reading and mathematics scores will continue to decline, while costs per students continue to rise without bound.

The only way to reverse the Cost of Woke is for Conservatives throughout the state to come together.  To demand a return to basic school values of hard work, discipline and a dedication to reading, writing, mathematics and science.

This will not be an easy fight, the left is already pouring millions of dollars into Virginia to make it permanently liberal. The cost to win this election will be high, but the costs of losing this election will be even greater.  So the final question, how much are you willing to spend for woke?

At this dangerous time for journalism in Virginia

We hope you appreciated this article. Before you close this tab, we want to ask if you could support All Virginia News at this challenging time for independent journalism in the Commonwealth.

Virginia is currently governed by a Democratic trifecta—Governor Abigail Spanberger in the Executive Mansion, Democrats holding majorities in both the House of Delegates and the Senate, along with key leadership positions held by figures such as Lt. Governor Ghazala Hashmi, Attorney General Jay Jones, House Speaker Don Scott, and others. In any period of one-party dominance, the risk of reduced transparency and accountability grows. A strong, independent press is essential to scrutinize those in power, regardless of party affiliation.

Across the nation and here in Virginia, press freedom faces real pressures: from political threats and regulatory actions to corporate influence and economic challenges that can compromise editorial independence. When government officials—whether in Richmond or Washington—attempt to shape coverage through pressure, investigations, funding decisions, or favoritism, it undermines public trust and democratic health.

All Virginia News exists to serve Virginia readers first. We are not owned by billionaires or large corporations with political agendas. Our commitment is straightforward: deliver factual, thorough reporting that holds every elected official accountable—Democrat, Republican, or independent—without fear or favor. We believe democracy functions best with a robust, independent press that provides Virginians the full picture, free from partisan spin.

What sustains us through these challenges is the direct support of our readers. A majority of our funding comes from individuals like you who value trustworthy, paywall-free journalism. Your contributions preserve our editorial independence and allow us to continue aggressive, non-partisan oversight of state government, policies, and their impact on Virginia families.

We know these requests are never as welcome as the reporting itself, but without reader support, this work simply could not continue. Of course, we understand that not everyone is in a position to contribute financially, and we remain grateful for your readership either way.

If you are able, please support All Virginia News today. All gifts matter, but recurring contributions are especially valuable as they help us plan and sustain our coverage long-term (and reduce the frequency of these appeals). It takes just a moment to give. Thank you for standing with independent journalism and helping protect a free press that serves all Virginians.
