Triplett won around 51%, while Brian Witt, his independent opponent, took about 48%. Daniel Pense, the city registrar, said that all votes in Lynchburg have been counted. The Electoral Board will check and approve them on Thursday morning.

Pense stated that the race is too close to call before provisional ballots were counted on Wednesday. Virginia Department of Elections reports that Triplett has gained 720 provisional votes, increasing his lead since election day.

Triplett is now with four Republicans who also won races in Lynchburg . Wendell Walker is joined by Commonwealth’s attorney Bethany Harrison, sheriff Donald Sloan, and commissioner of revenue Mitchell Nuckles. All except Triplett are incumbents.

Treasurer Robert Bailey has retired, leaving the position open for Triplett to run for in this fall. Triplett has worked as a teacher in public schools for over 20 years, and has also served as treasurer of various civic and political organizations. He said that he is committed to continuing Bailey’s legacy.

Triplett told an interviewer on Wednesday that he was “excited to get started” and would continue to uphold the high standards. “I am honored to have won this election and I would like to thank the voters for their trust.”
