Reston Town Center is embracing the winter season with a brand new event this weekend.
On Saturday, January 25, ” ice-travaganza ” will feature ice sculptures and live carving demonstrations as well as free hot chocolate and a live DJ. There will also be an ice skating show and other winter themed activities at the Mercury Fountain Plaza and Pavilion, located at 11900 Market Street.
BXP, the owner of Reston Town Center, is teaming with local pub Makers Union (1811 Library Street), and the Ice God a Baltimore based company which makes custom ice sculptural displays, luges, and other icy displays.
In a press statement, The Ice God stated that it collaborates with cities throughout the Mid-Atlantic to deliver ice festivals which never fail in drawing a crowd. The festival combines dazzling ice art and winter attractions, which captivates attendees of all ages.
The Ice-travaganza is scheduled from 12 noon to 3 pm. The ice carving demo will begin at 12:30 and continue until 2 pm. According to Sapna Ythiraj, Marketing Director for Reston Town Center’s owner BXP, the ice skating show is scheduled for 1:15 p.m.
Hot chocolate will only be available while supplies last. According to a memo to Fairfax County’s zoning office, games and other entertainment will also be planned. On Dec. 26, the county granted a permit to hold this special event.
Market Street between Presidents Street & Library Street will be closed during Ice-travaganza. Weekends are free for parking in the garage at Reston Town Center. However, street parking is $3 per hour on Saturdays with a two-hour maximum.
Reston Town Center, outside of the event, continues to offer public skating sessions as well as private rentals in its pavilion. The operating hours for the ice rink are usually from 11:30 am to 9 pm on Mondays through Thursdays and Sundays and 11:30 am to 11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
