Who Stands With Our Children?

Conservatives recently celebrated, and rightfully so, as The University of Pennsylvania was forced to apologize for their role in elevating transgender swimmers over biological females.  In

February of 2025, Virginia conservatives celebrated as the Virginia High School League (VHSL) reversed their policy of allowing transgender female athletes (biological males) to compete directly with biological females.  VHSL took this action to align with President Trump’s executive order on Protection of Women’s Sports, a policy also supported by Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Winsome Earle-Sears.  Unfortunately, however, even with these battles won, we are a long way from winning the war for the protection of our children.

In a radio interview in February of 2025, just before the VHSL policy change, Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Abigail Spanberger said she supported the VHSL policy of allowing transgender females to compete with biological females.

While in the Virginia House of Delegates, Ms. Spanberger voted against the Parents Bill of Rights which would require, among other things, schools to notify parents when their children were presenting with gender dysphoria issues.

In September of 2022 multiple news sources reported that Ms. Spanberger got into a “heated debate” with Governor Youngkin and several members of the Virginia Republican Caucus, over the Governor’s “model policies”.  At odds was the definition of a transgender student as “a public-school student whose parent has requested in writing, due to their child’s persistent and sincere belief that his or her gender differs from his or her sex, that their child be identified while at school.”  In other words, she objected to the parents need to be fully involved in the decision to change the identity of their child while at school.

On October 9, 2020, Fairfax County Public Schools adopted Regulation 2603 Special Services for Gender-Expansive and Transgender Students.  This regulation requires the school to provide changes in legal name, sexual identity, provide counseling, psychological and health services to students without parental notification. Even with the policy changes of Governor Youngkin and the Executive Orders of President Trump, this regulation remains in effect.

Recently Loudoun County Schools were again in the national news as three male high school students recorded and complained that a biological female was in their locker room.  Rather than taking action against the female student, the school board took action against the male students for Title IX violations.

Our children are under attack by a radical ideology that wants to pray upon the most vulnerable members of our society.  To turn confused children against their parents, to teach them to hate themselves, and their bodies. They are being taught to hate the values and religion of their parents.  The radical ideology teaches that transgender women and biological women can complete on an even playing field.  It teaches children the only way to end their confusion is to turn their bodies over to a seemingly benevolent government that will help them change themselves into a new person at peace with themselves.  The reality is very different:

  • According to a 2025 study in The Journal of Sexual Medicine, those who underwent “Gender Affirming” surgery had an increased risk of depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation and substance abuse.
  • Canadian and Dutch Studies show that gender dysphoria resolves itself in favor of the biological gender in over 80% of all cases at the end of adolescence without the need for puberty blockers and surgery.
  • A study in The Journal of Sexual Medicine found that US military personnel who had undergone “gender affirming care” actually had an increase in prescriptions needed for anxiety, depression and sleep issues rather than a decrease as touted by the liberal media.
  • An Australian study of preadolescent athletes found that boys generally outperformed girls of the same age in track and field sports as young as 9 years old.  This challenges the common claim that prepubescent boys or those on puberty blockers do not have an advantage over girls.  This aligns with National Institute of Health studies showing that males receive more testosterone in the womb, giving them a structural and muscular advantage that cannot be wiped away by a few months of hormonal treatments.

So, the question becomes who is going to stand with our children?

  • Will Abigail Spanberger stand with girls and boys when they are faced with a lifetime of medication and surgery for choices they made without their parents’ consent when they were at the same time too young to get a tattoo or purchase a cigarette?
  • Will the liberal members of school boards across the state stand with young women as they lose out on scholarships to transgender women (biological males) in school sports?
  • Will county leaders stand with young girls who give up on a lifetime of athletics because it’s just not worth the fight knowing they will never compete on a level playing field?
  • Who will stand with young women as they see their leaders and representatives unable to even define what a woman is, and see men dressed as cartoonish caricatures of women celebrated in the media?
  • Will the democrats in the Virginia House of Delegates stand with young men and women when they realize the drugs and surgeries they participated in during high school have left them sterile and mutilated for the rest of their lives?
  • Will the teachers and counselors who urged students to “be the real you,” be there to hold their hands after years and years of antidepressants are no longer effective and suicidal thoughts become uncontrollable?
  • Will the liberal media stand with preteen girls traumatized by having to change clothes or go to the bathroom with fully developed biological males.

The candidates’ positions on these issues could not be more clear or more diverse.

Abigail Spanberger has fought for the radical position favoring transgender issues over parents’ rights and children’s safety.  Winsome Earle-Sears supports the policies of President Trump in the protection of the Rights of Women, and will continue the policies of Governor Youngkin to protect and expand the rights of parents in children’s education and protection.

So, with whom do you stand?

At this dangerous time for journalism in Virginia

We hope you appreciated this article. Before you close this tab, we want to ask if you could support All Virginia News at this challenging time for independent journalism in the Commonwealth.

Virginia is currently governed by a Democratic trifecta—Governor Abigail Spanberger in the Executive Mansion, Democrats holding majorities in both the House of Delegates and the Senate, along with key leadership positions held by figures such as Lt. Governor Ghazala Hashmi, Attorney General Jay Jones, House Speaker Don Scott, and others. In any period of one-party dominance, the risk of reduced transparency and accountability grows. A strong, independent press is essential to scrutinize those in power, regardless of party affiliation.

Across the nation and here in Virginia, press freedom faces real pressures: from political threats and regulatory actions to corporate influence and economic challenges that can compromise editorial independence. When government officials—whether in Richmond or Washington—attempt to shape coverage through pressure, investigations, funding decisions, or favoritism, it undermines public trust and democratic health.

All Virginia News exists to serve Virginia readers first. We are not owned by billionaires or large corporations with political agendas. Our commitment is straightforward: deliver factual, thorough reporting that holds every elected official accountable—Democrat, Republican, or independent—without fear or favor. We believe democracy functions best with a robust, independent press that provides Virginians the full picture, free from partisan spin.

What sustains us through these challenges is the direct support of our readers. A majority of our funding comes from individuals like you who value trustworthy, paywall-free journalism. Your contributions preserve our editorial independence and allow us to continue aggressive, non-partisan oversight of state government, policies, and their impact on Virginia families.

We know these requests are never as welcome as the reporting itself, but without reader support, this work simply could not continue. Of course, we understand that not everyone is in a position to contribute financially, and we remain grateful for your readership either way.

If you are able, please support All Virginia News today. All gifts matter, but recurring contributions are especially valuable as they help us plan and sustain our coverage long-term (and reduce the frequency of these appeals). It takes just a moment to give. Thank you for standing with independent journalism and helping protect a free press that serves all Virginians.
